Nodal semi-Lagrangian schemes transport point values together with gradients and Hessians, while projection semi-Lagrangian schemes are basically semi-Lagrangian Discontinuous Galerkin schemes (SLDG) with straight remaining backward triangles and shared degrees of freedoms.
