We first formulate a simpliciality criterion in terms of incidences between rank-two and rank-three flats, together with equivalent formulations using face numbers, reduced restrictions, and characteristic polynomials. We also relate the classical planar restriction data of Grünbaum-Shephard to Ziegler multirestrictions.
