Influence of Routing and Speed Limits on Optimal Solutions in Traffic Emission Modeling

We investigate the influence of routing strategies and speed limit policies on optimal solutions in traffic emission models. Building on a first-order macroscopic traffic model coupled with an advection-diffusion model, we formulate single- and multi-objective optimization problems to simultaneously maximize traffic efficiency and minimize air pollution. We compare three control scenarios: optimizing only the routing strategy, optimizing only the speed limit policy, and optimizing both simultaneously.
