A lifted entropy splitting lemma and applications
We give a matrix lifting of the entropy-splitting theorem of Csiszár, Körner, Lovász, Marton, and Simonyi, and show several applications. We use it to prove the Cartesian-product inequality conjectured by Sinjorgo and Sotirov for the generalized Lovász theta number, and we also answer the saturation and convexification questions of Carli Silva, Coutinho, Oliveira, and Tunçel on the same theme. For the strong Hoffman bound, we answer a question of Wocjan, Elphick, and Darbari concerning orthogonal rank, and show that optimization over matrix weights gives exactly the ceiling of the theta…
