The Universal Nilpotent Cone and a Canonical 1-form

We construct a canonical Du Bois 1-form on the nilpotent cone in the dual Lie algebra of any reductive group. Using this 1-form we give an intrinsic construction of Nadler and Yun's universal global nilpotent cone. In particular, we obtain a moduli interpretation of the universal nilpotent cone.
