We study a bounded-degree form of a motivic Vojta inequality for pure André motives, arising from a question of Kato. We verify this inequality for infinitely many non-CM elliptic curves with unbounded stable Faltings height. The point is that ramification at the finite poles of the $j$-invariant gives the required discriminant bound.
